Program Objectives
Mentoring is a way of assisting new international students to quickly familiarize themselves with their new academic environment, and a tool to facilitate adjustment. It provides a comfortable atmosphere for open discussion, as well as an informal, reliable environment to get and receive feedback regarding their AUC experience.
The Role of the Mentor
- The mentor will act as a source of advice and assistance to the 'mentee', he/she will also act as a cultural guide for both academic and social situations that might arise during the academic term.
- The mentor will be a contact person to refer to for specific needs and problems as they may arise.
Mentor-Mentee Relationship
The mentor is expected to make him/her-self accessible to the mentee via email, phone, during office hours and/or occasional on/off campus social meetings throughout the semester. The method of accessibility is left to the mentor’s preference.
Agenda
- We will try to match mentors and mentees according to academic major.
- Mentors and mentees will be introduced on September 29th during the assembly hour.
- A gathering for all mentors and mentees will be arranged during the Fall 2008 semester.
- Mentors and mentees will be required to complete a short evaluation sheet at the end of the semester.
International students interested in joining the mentor program are to email Dina Wafa at dwafa@aucegypt.edu with the subject of the email as ‘Mentee’.
