AUC Hosts MIT OpenCourseWare Site
AUC has secured a partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to host on its server MIT’s OpenCourseWare (OCW) site, providing faster access to this online resource for those living in the Middle East and North Africa. The Web-based publication allows anyone to access course content, such as syllabi, lecture notes, slide presentations and assignments from both undergraduate and graduate courses offered in different departments and schools at MIT. Security and Safety

AUC is strongly committed to the physical, intellectual and emotional wellbeing of faculty, staff and students. An emergency management team, chaired by the vice president for planning and administration, oversees and directs emergency operations.

Security

The university's trained security team works in close cooperation with the Egyptian government to safeguard the campus and residences. All entrances are monitored and secured, with access controlled via ID checks, metal detectors and bag searches.

Safety

AUC's Department of Environmental Health and Safety monitors conditions and encourages safe practices, including careful use and disposal of chemicals, wearing of protective gear, and a non-smoking policy in all AUC buildings.

Health Services

The Medical Services Department offers routine care, emergency first-aid including medical care for sports injuries, medical examinations and advise by clinic physicians, travel medicine, and immunization services. The AUC clinic is located in the Campus Center, room P051. They are open weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Travel

Prior approval is required for all AUC-sponsored travel. The requirements and approval process are outlined in the procedure titled Security for AUC-Sponsored Trips/Travel.

As noted in that procedure: "Any trips and travel sponsored or supported by any department, area, club or group within AUC, whether for faculty and/or staff and/or students, require prior approval". The details of the approval process are outlined therein and you are encouraged to review that procedure.  At the present time, AUC is not sponsoring any travel to several neighboring countries, for example: Lebanon, Sudan, Israel, Iraq or Palestine.  The university is continually monitoring the security situation in the region so as to inform its decisions on requests for university-sponsored travel in light of changing conditions. No commitments to sponsored travel should be made before obtaining approvals as noted above.

Regardless of whether travel plans are AUC-related or personal, all members of the AUC community are encouraged to maintain an awareness of your surroundings as you go about your day-to-day business and to exercise reasonable vigilance and common sense when traveling - regardless of where you are. If you are planning personal travel, you should also check the U.S. Department of State web site for current travel advisories and warnings. You can also visit the AUC Travel Office for assistance with your travel.
