Mulki Al-Sharmani
Al-Sharmani is a Research Assistant Professor at the Social Research Center. Her research work on Somali refugees in Egypt and North America covers issues of protection, livelihood, community activism, identity discourses, and refugee women's diasporic roles and activities.
Al-Sharmani's other research interests and work in progress include child protection in Egypt; the interplay of citizenship, gender, and poverty in the lives of poor Egyptian women and Somali female refugees.
In spring 06, Al-Sharmani taught an elective course for FMRS entitled "Navigating Refugee Life: Women, Families, and Communities." This coming fall 2007, she will be teaching FMRS elective course "New Diasporas."
