Surfacing, is an international peer-reviewed electronic journal of graduate scholarship that provides a forum for dialogue and debate concerning gender studies throughout the Global South. Initiated by graduate students at the American University in Cairo under the auspices of the Institute for Gender and Women Studies (IGWS), the journal seeks to promote the theorization of gender throughout the global South.
Published bi-annually, our hope is to foster a dynamic community that ‘surfaces’ the diversity of desires and interests within the different intellectual communities of our region. We welcome inter-disciplinary submissions in both electronic and multimedia formats that critically assess the construction of ‘gender’ in line with new theoretical, social, cultural and political developments.
