Technology Fair 2007: Collaborative Technologies @ the New Campus: User-centric Resources, Services & Tools

The ACS Annual Technology Fair tool place on May 6th, 2007 in the Oriental Hall, Main Campus. This year's was titled "Collaborative Technologies @ the New Campus: User-Centric Services, Resources and Tools" . The fair explored a number of current computing trends, and the impact of associated technologies on our computing environment at the new campus.

Themes included Pervasive Computing , which explores systems that are ubiquitous, ever connected and provide information and services to the user regardless of location,  Social Networking which deals with a new class of software tools that enable communication and collaboration among communities, and last but not least, the  role of multi-media in enhancing instruction and learning at AUC.

ACS booths explored lively topics of special interest to students, faculty and administrators, and showcased the delivery of location-based services to PDAs (campus maps & directions and schedules for e.g.), the usage of collaborative workspaces and online resources, and the creation of virtual classrooms to name a few.

Speakers presented a series of talks that provided insight to the fair's themes, with participants from Academic Computing Services , AUC Computing, the Arabic Language Institute, Center for Learning & Teaching, Classroom Technologies & Media Services , the  Computer Science Department and the Library . We were also pleased to welcome guest speakers from Microsoft, WebCT and OpenCraft .

The fair was sponsored by a number of prominent technology vendors, who continue an annual tradition of providing prizes for a draw at the end of the day for participating users at the fair. These were Microsoft Egypt, Best Buy, Egyptian Microsolutions & Opencraft.
