Accounting Link Club Organizes Competition with Leading Accounting Company Ernst & Young

The Accounting Link club at AUC organized the Young Tax Professional competition under the auspices of the School of Business and in cooperation with one of the world’s most renowned accounting-service companies, Ernst & Young. The competition introduced participants to the practices of a tax-related career.

The event allowed students to develop their understanding of the essential concepts of taxation, whilst further building on their analytical, creative, commercial and practical skills with regards to the industry. Ahmed El Sayed, tax partner at Ernst & Young, delivered a speech to welcome students and participants in the competition. Divided into two stages, the competition was first held at AUC New Cairo, with students from Cairo University, Ain Shams, Misr International University and AUC.

Students attended multiple sessions, where topics and principles of taxation were discussed in preparation for the competition. Following these sessions, students were given assessments, after which the top four performers were chosen. The selected candidates gave 15-minute presentations to a panel of judges including Khaled Samaha, assistant professor of accounting, Khaled Dahawy, professor of accounting, as well as Ernst & Young partners and managers.

Kariman Kordy, finance student at AUC, was awarded second place in the competition, despite her minimal expertise in the field of taxation. Furthermore, it is noteworthy to mention that Kordy drew a close tie in the competition with the first-place winner.

The final ceremony took place in Boston, where finalists worked closely with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
