Welcome from the Coordinator

Welcome to the Intensive English Program (IEP)!

The IEP is designed to prepare students for the rigors of studying at AUC. The program concentrates on improving students' English language abilities in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and study skills to prepare students for overall academic success.

AUC provides students with a combination of American educational principles and Middle Eastern culture and heritage. As part of AUC's "liberal education" system, all undergraduate students take courses in a wide range of subjects, in addition to specialized courses in their majors. A "liberal education" system also stresses the importance of critical thinking and analysis of ideas, rather than mere memorization of facts. The IEP therefore focuses not only on developing students' English language skills for academic purposes, but also helps them prepare for a new style of education.

It is our experience that successful IEP students usually share certain characteristics: they take their studies seriously, cooperate with their teachers and fellow students, and make an effort to become aware of the variety of intellectual issues that are the foundation of academic studies at a liberal arts university. In other words, they consider the time they spend in the IEP as an opportunity and a challenge.
